Cancer Education and its Role in Cancer Care in Europe
Interview with Prof. Bob Pinedo
Prof. Bob Pinedo was one of the “founding fathers” of ESO, who met on the grassy slopes of Monte Verita (Switzerland) in 1982 to help establish the educational strategy of this organisation. From these humble beginnings, ESO has, by the end of 2012, provided over 750 courses to the brightest trainees of the European oncology community. In this interview, Prof Pinedo outlines the important role that ESO has fulfilled in oncology education and examines how best the European oncology community can address highly relevant topics such as the increasing burden of cancer and the significant issue of cancer disparities in Europe. Placing the cancer patient at the centre of initiatives to promote improved access to and delivery of quality cancer care for the European citizen is a critical component of this effort.
